Broadbent & Associates, Inc. is seeking curriculum vitae from qualified candidates to complete a backpacking archaeological survey in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in Southern California. Broadbent is seeking up to four seasonal archaeological field technicians for this project. Preference will be given to applicants with backpacking experience. Successful candidates will join a crew surveying in the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks for up to eight 8-day field sessions between March and August 2025. This project will require backpacking, tent camping, and surveying in mountainous terrain. Transportation from the Reno office to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks will be provided.
The onboarding process includes an orientation, a physical exam, and drug test. As this project is on federal land, marijuana use is prohibited. All time to complete these tasks will be paid.
Minimum Requirements for Field Technician:
A./B.S. in Archaeology or Anthropology or a closely related field and/or one or more years of experience in archaeological survey and excavation.
Willingness to camp in a tent and pack all personal equipment into and out of the field in compliance with ‘Leave No Trace’ protocols.
Willingness to backpack and camp for multiple 8-day sessions in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Willingness to contribute to a safe work environment and follow all applicable safety requirements of Broadbent and the National Park Service.
Ability to perform fieldwork activities independently and with a team.
Ability to take clear field notes.
Ability to recognize and accurately identify artifacts and features common in the region.
Ability to hike up to 12 miles per day in rugged terrain during a 10-hour workday.
Ability to carry up to 40 lbs. of camping equipment over distances.
Compensation:
Compensation is between $22 and $32/hour, commensurate with education, experience in the region, and amount of time working as a professional archaeologist.
Broadbent offers per diem according to GSA rates for the region.
Per diem is paid electronically every two weeks on the same schedule as paychecks.
Time and a half is paid for hours exceeding 40 in a single work week.
All project-related travel time is paid, including mobilization to the job site and/or base camp and back (up to 8 hours), and daily from the base camp to the job site, and then back to the base camp.
